WQKR has been Portland's radio station since first going on the air in 1980. For 40 years we have informed, entertained and served as the voice of, and for, our community, under a number of different owners. Some succeeded, some failed, but all had the best interests of Portland and Sumner County at heart.
Our current ownership group bought the station and took to the air in November, 2004. First as Venture Broadcasting, now as WQKR, LLC…we have gone from a daytime only to a 24-hour AM station; increased our power; and added an FM station…all to better serve our listeners throughout northern Middle Tennessee, serving not just Portland, but also White House, Westmoreland, Gallatin, Hendersonville, Hartsville, Lafayette, Orlinda, Cross Plains, and other parts of both Sumner and Robertson Counties in Tennessee…and Franklin/Simpson County and Scottsville/Allen County in Kentucky.

We are the people's radio station, and our primary goal is to serve the broadcast needs of everyone who lives and works in our listening area. Bringing necessary information to all of our listeners, and telling their story to everyone else who needs to know what is happening in Portland and the surrounding area.

Radio stations serve many needs for many people, and WQKR wants to do it better than anyone else. Music, news, talk and sports----we are Portland's radio station.
